Extracted from an archive of archaeological pamphlets from the British School at Rome, Slow Photos (2023) displays a series of back covers as documents of time. In the absence of text, attention is drawn to the paper itself, discoloured by years of sunlight. In this work, the empty pages ask us to consider paper as the substance of written histories. Here, the absent narratives point to what is unwritten or forms of knowledge historically categorized as invalid – lived experience, intergenerational exchange, gossip or otherwise.
